How Air Pollution Causes And Effects Is Harmful to Kids?

Why necessary to Improve Indoor Air Quality? How to reduce Risk?

Air pollution is increasing day by day across the world, air pollution causes and effects everywhere. Does this article talk about how air pollution is harmful to Kids? How to reduce risk? And why necessary to improve air quality at home.

Air pollution is affecting our environment badly and Bangladesh is the most polluted country as of 2020 with an annual average PM2.5 concentration of 77.1.

Indoor Air pollution is one of the key causes of top respiratory health issues such as respiratory allergies and asthma. For helping solve these issues, there are some of the best air purifying plants that can help improve indoor air quality.

What is Air Pollution?

Air pollution refers to the combination of solid particles and gases in the air which are injurious to the health of all the living beings of this world. In the cities, Ozone gas is one of the biggest reasons for air pollution.

There are also various types of air pollution gases like ammonia, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, nitrous oxides, carbon dioxide, and chlorofluorocarbons.

As per the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution is accountable for almost seven million deaths across the world every year.

Air Pollution Causes and Effects Is Harmful

The air pollution index measures how polluted the air is. The air pollution index is known as the air quality index (AQI). An air quality index (AQI) is a directory for reporting air quality every day.

It is used by government agencies of different countries to communicate to the public about air pollution. The Global Air pollution index is based on the U.S air quality index. In the U.S air quality index, 0-50 score is considered good, 51-100 is moderate, 101-150 is unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151-200 is unhealthy, 201-300 is very unhealthy, and 300+ is hazardous.

Bangladesh has an air pollution index of 162, making it one of the top air polluted countries in the world as of 2020. The yearly average of PM2.5 reading of Dhaka in 2019 was 83.3 μg/m³.

As a result, it was in the ‘unhealthy’ bracket of air quality, which needs a PM2.5 reading between 55.5 to 150.4 μg/m³ to be classified as unhealthy.

In January, the yearly average going well above with a best of 181.8 μg/m³, putting it into the ‘very unhealthy’ bracket (150.5 to 250.4 μg/m³). Some other Asian polluted country’s like India and China has air pollution indexes of  141 and 98 as of 2020.

In 2019, The US AQI number averaged out at 152 and the PM2.5 figure recorded was 58.08µg/m³ in India. The concentration level was five times above the World Health Organization (WHO) recommend levels.

China ranked as the eleventh polluted country worldwide in 2019. The US AQI figure for 2019 was 110 and the PM2.5 figure recorded was 42.1 µg/m³.

This concentration level was 3 times higher than the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommended.

How Air Dirtying is Harmful to Kids?

Air pollution is harmful to kids because their lungs are still emerging and growing. It can cause asthma, childhood cancer, and chronic illnesses like cardiovascular illness later in life.

According to WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, polluted air is poisoning millions of children and killing their lives. Children breathe more quickly than adults.

This is a reason they are very weak to the causes and effects of air pollution and they absorb more toxins. Many studies have also discovered that air pollution is related to harming children while they are still in the womb.

Worldwide, 93 percent of all kids breathe air that contains higher concentrations of toxins than the World Health Organization (WHO) considers harmless to human health. Resulting in 600,000 kids dying prematurely every year from air pollution.

How to reduce risk?

Energy conservation is needed to reduce the risk of air pollution. You can decrease the number of trips you take in your car.

A change from motorized to active transport (cycling or walking) is ideal for this type of situation. You need to keep a check on your kid’s health and monitor respiratory problems. You also need to take all actions to avoid long-term/prolonged breathing issues.

In Bangladesh, pollution levels rise in winters, this being the reason why respiratory issues more occur in winter. So, you need to take care of your kid more in winter.

You can bring home some best air cleaner plants described in this article for keeping the indoor air breathable for your kid as indoor air pollution is a common source of air pollution.

Why need more protection from air Impurity?

People living in any corner of this world can be exposed to air pollution. The type and quantity of exposure differ depending on your location, the time of day, and even the weather.

Exposure to air pollution is higher near pollution sources such as wood-burning equipment or busy roadways. Our daily activities like Idling cars, gas-fueled yard equipment, and chemicals we use in our houses expose us to greater levels of air pollution. So, people need more protection from air pollution.

What is Air Purifying Factory?

Air purifying plants are plants that recover our environment by absorbing dangerous chemicals, gases, and solid particles from the air. As we spend a lot of time at home, the highest importance is to make the indoor air quality healthy.

Air Purifying Indoor Plants are naturally the best air purifiers. A well-known NASA experiment discovers that air purifying indoor plants can absorb some volatile organic carbons from the air that causes cancer.

We exhale carbon dioxide into the air. The role played by plants, in general, is to remove carbon dioxide and some other pollutants from the air.

Some studies show that having indoor plants will not improve the quality of air in the home. Still, there is some air purifying indoor plants that you can use to improve the quality of the air more than the normal plants.

Benefits of Air Purifying Plants

There are some benefits other than absorbing some volatile organic carbons from the air and remove carbon dioxide and some other pollutants from the air of the air purifying plants. Some of them are given below:

  • According to some studies at the Agricultural University of Norway, plants raise the humidity of the air around them. The humidity of a room can be improved if some plants are placed together. It can work to reduce the start of respiratory diseases.
  • Air purifying indoor plants can improve productivity. The research of Dr. Chris Night of Exeter University shows that employees are 15% more productive when workplaces are occupied with a selection of indoor plants.
  • Continuously seeing plants can make you feel happier and more peaceful. By doing so, it reduces anxiety and depression. The soothing effects of plants can also improve attentiveness and memory.
  • Lower harmful CO2 levels by the process it into chemical element
  • Lessens the number of bound pollutants like process and dioxide
  • Reducing mobile dirt levels
  • Keeping air temperatures down
  • Plants facilitate lower ground noise
  • All plants will act as air cleaners however some square measure area unit useful than others once it involves removing toxins within the air.

General role play:

Lowers stress and fatigue
Enhance concentration
Increase productivity.

Take A Way

Every country’s government should take necessary steps to reduce air pollution causes and effects, and the risk of it. Those who are reading this article can comment and give their opinion on how to reduce the risk of air pollution.
